Ice safety: no ice is ever guaranteed safe. This site does not report ice thickness or conditions and nothing here means a lake is safe to walk or drive on. The Wisconsin DNR does not monitor ice conditions either. Ask local bait shops, clubs and authorities about current conditions, check repeatedly as you go, and stay off if in doubt. Ice varies across a single lake and changes by the hour with currents, springs, pressure ridges, snow cover and weather. We publish no thickness numbers and no "safe" ratings, and we will not. Decisions about going on the ice are yours alone; local bait shops, fishing clubs, sheriff's departments and municipalities are better sources for current conditions than any website.
